Anxiety can be caused by many things causing different types of anxiety. Not one thing may help relieve anxiety, you may need to make multiple changes.

We’ve provided some options to manage anxiety/stress. Chose one or two to work on to see what works best for you.

Acupuncture: Studies have shown acupuncture regulates/calms the nervous system and brings the body and mind back into balance.

Exercise: Regular exercise, 20-30 min per day, can help reduce stress and anxiety and promote feelings of calm. Walking in nature can add an extra sense of calm.

Healthy Diet: Eating a healthy, balanced diet can help reduce anxiety symptoms. Eating foods that are high in vitamins and minerals, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, can help improve mood and reduce stress.

Herbal Supplements: Certain herbal supplements, such as lavender, chamomile, and valerian root, can help reduce anxiety and improve sleep. However, it’s important to speak to a doctor before taking any supplements, as they can interact with medications.

Relaxation Techniques: Relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and mindfulness can help reduce anxiety symptoms. Yoga and meditation are wonderful relaxation techniques.

Talk with those you enjoy being around, friends and/or family: Adequate amounts of social support are associated with increases in levels of a hormone called oxytocin, which functions to decrease anxiety levels and stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system calming down responses.

Talking with a therapist or counselor: These trained professionals can give you ways to help manage your anxiety through talking, writing, or other suggestions.

Those with anxiety may need other traditional therapies if non traditional or natural therapies have been tried and do not work. Talking to a professional mental health professional can help determine if treatments such as medication, neurofeedback or cognitive behavioral therapy can be helpful.
