Chronic pain is defined as persistent pain that occurs for longer than 12 weeks, the normal healing time. It can come and go and is not relieved by medication or treatment. Chronic pain can be mild to severe and can be life changing.

The most common types of chronic pain are joint, muscle and nerve pain.

Arthritis/joint pain can affect any joint in the body, caused by inflammation of the area. Symptoms include pain, reduced range of motion, swelling and stiffness area. Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis are the most common.

Muscle pain can be caused by trauma or overuse, infection or disease such as cancer. Symptoms can include swelling to the area, bruising, tender to the touch, achiness, and reduced range of motion. Back or neck pain from overuse are the most common. Fibromyalgia is overall muscle pain not explained by overuse or physical trauma

Nerve pain is caused by damage to the nerve, it can occur anywhere in the body. Nerve pain can cause a prickling feeling, shooting, stabbing or burning sensation in the area. The most common nerve pain is neuropathy.
